
Dr. Mary Metropol had the opportunity to purchase the practice from Dr. Nick Mandanis in 1991. In the past 28 years, Dr. Metropol has expanded the practice and built the downtown Columbia office in 2001, at the corner of Henderson and Blanding Streets. This office is located directly behind the Township Auditorium and adjacent to the Robert Mills Historic District.
Dr. Metropol graduated from James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine located at The Medical University in Charleston, South Carolina. She has been practicing for over 30 years and professionally holds active memberships in the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry and South Carolina Dental Association, MUSC’s Board of Alumni, Palmetto Richland Children’s Hospital (Prisma Health Children’s Hospital) and the Commission of Psychology, at large appointment by Governor. Additional memberships have included Academy of Sports Dentistry, team dentist for the Inferno Hockey Team and the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. She has presented at the Annual Hinman Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia and completed M1 training and certification in implant placement at the prestigious Engel Institute in Charlotte, North Carolina.
She enjoys and continues to serve in many state and local community dental endeavors, such as: Give Kids a Smile, Special Olympics, and Children’s Health Clinic. She is married to a wonderful man, John, and together they have three grown children, Phyllis, Gabby, and James. She and her husband are active members of Columbia’s Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in downtown Columbia.
